Film Friendly Michigan - Community-Wide Presentations – Deb Havens/Mark Adler

The day-long course “When Hollywood Comes to Town” is aimed at business and community leaders from municipal government, economic development, police and fire units, business owners and others interested in being certified as “Michigan Film Friendly.”

For communities on the west side of Michigan, a partnership with Grand Valley State University’s Continuing Education Department will provide all participants in the course with .7 CEU credits. For participants on the east side of the state, CEUs will be provided by the Continuing Education Department at Wayne State University. Continuing Education Units are an official endorsement of the high standards for professional development offered by this course, geared specifically toward the film industry.

The course features film and production experts who will help participants dig deeper into the ins and outs of how local communities can benefit from the industry on a variety of levels. Topics will be included such as how film locations are chosen, how to work with location scouts and production crews, what to include in local filming guidelines, and how to develop a photo location package that promotes your community, as well as an opportunity to start planning for your community’s “Hollywood close-up.”

Michigan film success stories and pitfalls will be shared as well, during a panel discussion with representatives from communities who have hosted film and commercial productions.

Recent panel members have included:

Vicky Michaeu – Delta County Chamber, Escanaba
• Mark Adler – VAI Digital, Detroit "Capture Main Street" Project

• Cam deLong - Entertainment Division, Warner, Norcross & Judd, Grand Rapids
• Brad Van Dommelen – Traverse City CVB
• Tom Jacob – Location Scout & Manager, Detroit
